Offshore Fishing Charters Playa Herradura
Playa Herradura
Sports Fish Costa Rica are currently operating our charter fishing trips from the Los Suenos Marina in Playa Herradura near Jaco on the Northern Puntarenas coast of Costa Rica. While this stretch of coast is always a popular game fishing location, November to March is a particularly good time to fish out of Los Suenos.
Located less than two hours from the main airport San Jose, Herradura has seen significant development over the last ten years, including the high-end Los Suenos Marriot. However, it is still a more tranquil option than the nearby Jaco and offers a variety of accommodation, from hotels to cabins and camping.
Los Suenos is an excellent base for deep sea fishing for billfish, marlin, mahi-mahi and wahoo. Sports Fish Costa Rica can also give you the option of fishing for roosterfish, cubera snapper, mackeral and grouper amongst other local species that can be found inshore from Herradura.
Sports Fish Costa Rica can arrange your airport pick-up and subsequent accommodation in Herradura if required. We will provide hands-on support, whether you want a half-day fishing trip or a longer three day fishing package in Costa Rica. Contact us through our online form to discuss your requirements. We are offering a special discount for internet bookings at the moment. We pride ourselves on our personalized, flexible service to cater for the first-time sportfisher as well as more experienced anglers in Costa Rica
Playa Herradura has many other attractions besides sportfishing in close proximity. Parque National Carara conatins many bird species including the rare scarlet macaw, as well as monkeys and sloths. Huge crocodiles can be seen from Crocodile Bridge. As the waters at Herradura are more calm than many other beaches along the coast, it is a good location for swimming.
TAMARINDO
We also run fishing trips from Tamarindo, which has long been established as one of the most popular locations in Costa Rica for blue water fishing. Blue marlin, sailfish, yelllowfin tuna among others can be found offshore on this area of the Pacific coast of Cost Rica. However, Tamarindo has many other attractions also, such as year round surfing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking and nearby nature reserves. Bicycles, surfboards and equipment of all types can be rented from local speciality shops. There is an excellent choice of accommodation, from budget to luxury as well as a variety of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and craft shops. With its mixture of water sports, fishing, nightlife and beaches Tamarindo has something for all ages.

Tamarindo's climate has two seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season, from November to April is dry, hot and sunny. The humidity is very low and comfortable. The rainy season begins in April or early May and continues through to October. However, Tamarindo is one of the driest areas in Costra Rica and is labelled as a 'tropical dry forest', meaning it does not experience the kind of wet season usually experienced in a tropical area
The international airport in Liberia, Guanacaste is just 45 minutes from Tamarindo. There is also a local airport in Tamarindo, which is serviced 7 days a week from San Jose. In addition, there are scheduled daily bus services to and from San José.
